The marbled or swirled colors in the creamer go all the way through the clay, as you can see by the interior photos of the sugar bowl and creamer. In this case, white and tan clays were mixed.

The marbling, seen also in ware by Buffalo (Multifleure) and Shenango, is unusual for Carr, especially in this combination.

These pieces were made in 1948. We don't know how adventurous Carr got in mixing the clay bodies and whether they got beyond the white/black/tan palette. (See also the marbled ashtray.)
