A fragment of the Harding Underglaze Print Pattern 7010 (without flowers) was used to make this demi cup, topmarked in Gothic or Old English font: NPC.

Barbara Page of Portland, Ore., was the owner of this cup. She said it was from the Portland estate of David S. Piper Sr., who was an AP (Associated Press) reporter, and later a news editor, for The Oregonian. The family believed that this dates to the 1940s.

According to Page, her research showed "that this pattern was used only for heads of state and other high profile guests at their annual National Press Club luncheon" in Washington, D.C.

We have no evidence to support this claim but include it as a strong possibility of the source of this topmark. And with the addition of a photo of a National Press Club matchbook, shown below, the ID is strengthened by the matching font on the matchbook and cup.
