Douvry's Seawall Hotel & Cafe

From what we’ve been able to piece together, Douvry’s Seawall Hotel & Café was located at Boulevard and variously 17th, 24th or 25th Street in Galveston, Texas. It was owned by Peter Douvry, a “pioneer hotel and restauranteur” (source, July 14, 1978 obit in The Galveston Daily News) who also “built and operated the Seaview Café at 25th and Beach.”

The creamer and butter pat, on Glo-Tan, say Douvry’s Seawall Hotel & Café, but the postcard, shown at the bottom of the page, says Douvry’s Seaview Café and Seaview Hotel Apartments. However the postcard located below the butter pat gives the address as 17th and Boulevard.

These pieces are slightly different from the ones made for Douvry's by Shenango China. Those refer to Seawall Hotel & Cafe. And it is for this reason that we feel sure that the unmarked butter pat was made by Carr.
